JAWS 50th & Sharks on Cape Cod 2025
07AUGUST2025 -- CAPE COD, MA -- Each summer and fall, great white sharks return to waters off Cape Cod and the surrounding islands, stirring both awe and anxiety among beachgoers. This short documentary explores the seasonal presence of these apex predators, fears they ignite—especially in a region made famous by the 1975 thriller Jaws—and the ongoing efforts to shift the narrative.
Ocean advocate and endurance swimmer Lewis Pugh visited Martha’s Vineyard in May, ahead of the 50th anniversary of Jaws, to offer a more balanced perspective by swimming the circumference of the island. As an advocate for sharks, Pugh highlights the ecological importance of great whites and urges us to move beyond fear toward understanding and coexistence. Featuring interviews with experts from the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and Pugh, this video challenges viewers to see sharks not as villains, but as a vital part of the health of our ocean.
